Whilst the Lindfield Village Run is traditionally a 5k and 10k run around a rural cross-country course on the second Bank Holiday in May – this year, because of the current social restrictions in place, we will be holding a Virtual Lindfield Run & Walk.

Between Saturday 29th and Monday 31st May 2021 residents are encouraged to go for a walk or run and to go past one of three ‘selfie boards’ – where participants are encouraged to take a selfie. The snap can either be posted on social media with the #LindfieldVillageRun or emailed to photos@lindfieldlife.co.uk, where they may be used in a round-up article in this magazine.

Co-chair Katherine Alcock explained: “Unfortunately, the timing of the easing of restrictions mean that there is no simple answer for holding an event at the end of May. However, we did want to try to bring people together in a shared activity over that weekend.

This means that anyone can take part in 2021 – whether you fancy a stroll around the village, a power-walk to the shops or do your usual 10k route – in 2021 we can accommodate any abilities and any distance! We just want the community to get involved and have fun.

Without any distance or speed awards this year, we have decided to create three fun prize categories – judged from the photos sent in. Prizes will be given for:

  • Best Fancy Dress
  • Largest Family Bubble
  • Brightest Running Gear

The selfie boards will be located next to the Pond, Hickmans Lane Playing Fields and at the bottom of the Common. There will be no official registration for this event. Simply go for a walk or run, take a selfie on your route and send in the photo.

TESTIMONIALS

Many runners come back to Lindfield Village Run year after year. Here's a few quotes we've had taken from runners...
  • Those hills lol see ya next year!
  • Great event thanks to all the volunteers! Not so much to the hills out in Ardingly.
  • Fantastic event and even though my results are missing I thoroughly enjoyed it.
  • A fab event. Lovely bunch of friendly marshals. Thanks very much for volunteering and making it a great run!
  • Lovely event and a perfect first 5k for my 11 year old grandson. So well organised and fantastic volunteers. Well done to all involved
  • Really enjoyed my run, thank you very much. It was my first 10k ever and it was so well organised. A massive shout out to the marshals
  • Thanks to everyone who made today’s run possible. Great organisation, marshalling and mud!
  • Tony

As a regular competitor in the Lindfield Run, just wanted to say THANKS to everyone involved who gave up their time. It was a great event - as ever - possibly made better by the complete mudfest! A real laugh - and a wonderful way of bringing together the village.

  • Rachel

A wonderfully fun route amongst all the mud with fantastic marshals and great organisation. The other runners I encountered were also great and really helped to make a top notch race. Personally I was especially grateful to runner number 330 who got me running again when I was giving into my demons and having a sneaky walk up one of the hills. He gave me the little nudge of encouragement I needed.

  • Sue

Just wanted to say thank you for a great race on Sunday. As a family of four we ran the 10k and it was a beautiful day and course - proper cross country, trail running. A few minor hiccups were more than compensated for by the 'village run' feel, the course and the enthusiasm of the marshals and volunteers. We will be back next year.

  • Michael
I really enjoyed this well organised event in my home village.

  • Peter

A great event and I'm looking forward to registering again next year!

The atmosphere was really lovely and it was nice to see the village come together and enjoy the sun and the run.

King Edward Hall

Update 9th March 2021

COVID-19 Guidance

King Edward Hall is looking forward to reopening soon following the Government’s announcement that was made in February 2021 in which a 4 step Road Map to easing lockdown restrictions was provided.

We are delighted that village halls will be permitted to reopen commencing 12 April 2021, however this will only be for those activities that are currently permitted under lockdown plus a small list of additional permitted activities.

The process of unlocking will apply in four steps across England, without reverting to Tiers, with a minimum five weeks between each step. Each step is dependent on all four of the following conditions being met. All dates are “no earlier than" and the Government will confirm a week beforehand.

  • The coronavirus vaccine programme continues to go to plan
  • Evidence shows vaccines are sufficiently reducing the number of people dying or needing hospital treatment
  • Infections rates do not risk a surge in hospital admissions
  • New variants of the virus do not fundamentally change the risk of lifting

King Edward Hall will be pleased to consider taking bookings as follows, subject to Government guidance in place at the time:

Step One: From 8 March and 29 March

Only those activities already permitted under lockdown.

Step Two: From 12 April

  1. All indoor supervised children’s activities including dance classes and musical activities.
  2. Parent and child groups with up to 15 attending plus under-fives eg parents and toddlers.
  3. Funerals with up to 30 people; wakes and weddings with up to 15 guests.

Social contact rules will continue to apply in all settings – meaning social distancing must be maintained, no indoor mixing allowed between different households.

Step Three: From 17 May

  1. Controlled indoor events.
  2. Hospitality settings including cafes, coffee mornings and social clubs.
  3. Film shows, plays and concerts subject to social distancing.
  4. Indoor sports activities including exercise classes.
  5. Up to 30 persons attending weddings, receptions, funerals and wakes, including christenings.

The “rule of 6” continues to apply to indoor events. Social distancing measures will need to be observed, including the Hall’s special COVID conditions of hire.

Step Four: From 21 June

  1. All legal limits on social contact are due to be removed.
  2. Dancing will hopefully be permitted.

We regret that further guidance is currently awaited regarding booking conditions that will apply from this date.
